Ethnocide

Long ago the Nations lived together in harmony until one day, some European nations attacked!!!!!.

Ethnocide refers to the  deliberate and systematic destruction of the culture of an ethnic group. Which is the case for many groups today but was disguised as colonisation; the action or process of settling among and establishing control over the indigenous people of an area.

The direct consequences of the colonial expansion ranged from genocides that wiped out large segments of populations, to the subtle destruction of their cultures. Colonialism disrupted not only the political organization and economic production of many political entities, it also brought forms of cultural alienation, invasion, and disorientation.

Control of wealth, natural resources, and cultural products were the main aims of colonialism. New systems for the production and distribution of wealth were initiated, along with mental and psychological control of self-perception and awareness.

Consequently, Cultures were destroyed, undervalued, undermined, and distorted. The systems by which ethnic groups had struggled with nature and organized their societies became irrelevant in an incomprehensive and exploitative social order, with which many still live today.

Elements of certain cultures survived in its various languages, food, dressing, performing and other arts, religions, etc. These elements were the backbone of their resistance to annihilation and cultural destruction.

This is why it’s important to embrace, share and preserve our cultures. It allows us to connect with the past and learn from our history, while also creating a sense of place and community. By doing this we can also ensure that future generations have the opportunity to learn from and appreciate these important cultural resources, while helping to foster a sense of pride and identity in our communities, by celebrating our unique characteristics and our heritage.
